Climbing out of the cornfields of Illinois Joe was born and received his BFA in Champaign, IL. Via New Haven, CT and Providence, RI, Joe relocated to the east coast continuing to work and exhibit. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006, and has since landed in a remote area near the blue ridge parkway in North Carolina. In addition to recent exhibitions in Chicago, Louisville, Providence, Richmond, and Durham, Joe has received numerous awards including the North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship, the Creative Glass Center of America Fellowship, Pilchuck Assistantships, and Haystack Assistantships. "A triadic relationship between science, people and art has influenced my latest work. Science is creative but its language is limiting, art has a wider vocabulary with which to interpret events, one that can employ the subjective experience. This work explores the human condition in a time when technology has become more seamless with our bodies and our lives."
